| throbbing head Pain Relief – What You Need to Know About Muscle Tension and Body Awareness Posted: 29 Mar 2011 12:35 PM PDT throbbing head Pain Relief – What You Need to Know About Muscle Tension and Body AwarenessMigraine arresting begins with body awareness. I spent twelve years in custom as a massage therapist and have worked with many migraineurs during that time. One thing is certain; I’ve never worked on a someone who suffered from Migraine disease that didn’t carry extreme muscle tension in the neck, and shoulders. The jaw as well was often a prime area of pain and tension for migraineurs. Becoming more aware of the muscle tension that you carry can greatly support you in eliminating factors that contribute to migraine attacks. > Severe muscle tension in the neck, shoulders and jaw can be deadly compound for migraineurs. This severe tension is a pre-migraine symptom that any migraineur can learn to become more aware of and treat with daily relaxations practices, massage, and stretching. True migraine pain relief is dependent upon your ability to publish stress and tension that you hold in the body. While a general amount of tension in these areas is healthy, the extreme levels of tension that migraine sufferers tend to hold in these areas is not. This is the tension that can lead to migraine attacks. The shoulders, neck and jaw are customary areas that you will want to learn how to relax if you want to get relief from migraine headaches. When Adapting to Muscle Tension Dulls Your Body Awareness Achieving migraine relief isn’t all the time easy when your body has adapted to this tension. When extreme tension becomes the norm you do not all the time receive safe bet signals from your body telling you that there is something that needs your attention. In fact, I would estimate that as much as 40% of my clients who carried this extreme muscle tension claimed to have no pain or sense of critical tension in these parts of their body. For some, the muscle tension would become more safe bet when I would work on these areas and the muscles would begin to release. For others, I could be releasing muscles in the neck and shoulders that had knots the size of a marbles and still they couldn’t sense a critical qoute in these areas. If you suffer from headaches or migraines you are likely carrying high levels of tension in these areas of your body. The trick is in becoming aware of the tension and studying to publish it so that it doesn’t stimulate migraine activity. In times of stress, when the fight or flight response kicks in we caress muscle tension. It’s a natural response to stress or any perceived threat that we experience. We tighten the muscles colse to our blood vessels. The blood travels away from our extremities and towards our customary organs at the town of the body. If our bodies become prone to too much stress and we neglect to publish it we can wind up with unhealthy, weakened and tight muscles in the upper body that do not get the permissible blood and nutrients they need. Salutary blood flow is imperative for migraineurs seeking relief. Natural Migraine Relief Strategies for Tension: Applying ice packs and heat to the shoulders, neck and jaw can help you relax the muscles and publish the tension they hold. Stretching your neck and shoulders throughout the day is also a great way of becoming more aware of these muscles and the tension they hold. The stretching will bring more blood and nutrients into these muscles and support them in remaining relaxed and healthy. If you don’t believe that you are carrying an unhealthy amount of tension in these areas and yet you suffer from migraines I ask you to reconsider the possibility that you may have adapted to this extreme tension and are therefore unaware of it’s presence. Here’s something you can do to growth your muscle tension awareness: An rehearsal in expanding Your Awareness of Muscle Tension Take a moment and rate the level of tension of you feel right now in your neck on a scale of 1-10, (1) being a very minuscule amount of tension, (5) being a moderate amount of tension and (10) being an extreme amount of tension. To do this, you can sense into the front of your neck, the sides of your neck, and the back of your neck. Then just give the tension you feel in all these parts of your neck an uncut rating. Next, grab a hand towel and stand over your kitchen sink. Turn the water on to a warm-hot climatic characteristic and soak the hand towel in the water. Then wrap the moist hot towel all the way colse to your neck as if it were a winter scarf. Be sure to cover your whole neck. When the warmth of the towel dissipates, put it under the hot water in the sink again to get it hot and wrap it colse to your neck again for a minuscule or so. You can continue this for the next 4-5 minutes, wrapping the moist heated towel fully colse to your neck. When you are done, sense into your neck muscles once again and consideration the level of tension you now feel in the front of your neck, the sides of your neck and the back of your neck. Now rate your level of tension in the neck. Has the tension decreased? Do your muscles feel different? Is there more flexibility in your neck? How do your muscles feel? Sometimes we become aware of the tension we were keeping only after the muscles have released. If “the norm” we caress is extreme tension and we do something like this that allows us to caress a feeling surface of the norm like “relaxation” then we have something new to compare to. Try this self care rehearsal for yourself and custom releasing any muscle tension that could be impeding your goal to get relief from migraine headaches. However, to cure your migraine is impossible if you do not take any action now. Day-to-day your problem is going to be worse.
